Common symptoms include fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, dry skin, depression, menstrual irregularities.

-Causes of hypothyroidism: autoimmune disorder, drug induced, post surgical, post radiation treatment, iodine deficiency

-Diagnosis: blood test to check thyroid hormone levels

-Treatment: thyroid hormone replacement. If very severe, referral to an Endocrinologist (hormone specialist) may be necessary. Your doctor may check your thyroid hormone levels every 6 weeks once starting treatment to ensure that the dose is right for you.
